Meditation Classes, Courses, and Retreats

For meditations to have an impact on our life, we need to establish a regular meditation practice.

Introductory meditation classes - the General Programme

Chenrezig Kadampa Buddhist Centre offers a variety of introductory meditation classes in Lancaster.

The introductory meditation classes are designed to give a broad introduction to Buddhist meditation, ideas, and practice. The classes combine guided meditation with practical spiritual advice that you can immediately apply as a method for solving the stress and problems in your life. In these classes, you will learn how to meditate, how to establish a daily practice, how to concentrate, and how to overcome distractions. You will also learn different meditation techniques that help you overcome negative states of mind, such as anger and selfishness, and cultivate positive states of mind, such as patience and love.

The guided meditations are the foundation for developing a powerful meditation practice. A regular meditation practice has many benefits:

  • Helps overcome stress
  • Reduces anxiety and worry
  • Brings inner calm and a feeling of well-being
  • Gives clarity to solve our problems
  • Helps us deal with difficult people and situations

The classes are open to those who are able to attend only occasionally, as well as to those who want to follow a systematic series of classes. The classes are designed both as a series and as stand alone classes, so you can attend any one of the classes, even if the series has already started.

In depth study - The Foundation Programme

picture of ordained sangha taking notes at a teachingIn addition to weekly meditation classes, from this September, Chenrezig Centre will also offer the Foundation Programme for those who want to study Mahayana Buddhism through a structured in-depth programme.

The secret of the Foundation Programme’s success lies in the manageable commitment that participants undertake.

Students enroll for one section of the book at a time and commit to attending every class, learning the material, and taking a test related to that section.

Classes are on Sundays from 9am - 1.30pm during term with substantial breaks at new year, spring, and summer.
