Sizergh Castle and Helsington

Another opportunity to meet together with people from the other classes to socialise and learn from others who have been practising Buddha’s teachings for a while and have experienced great benefit in their lives, reducing their stress, anxiety and other problems.

This is a short (approx. one and a half/two hours) field and parkland walk. Not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies.

The walk starts at 10.15am from the left hand lay-by on the road to Sizergh Castle. Take the slip road from the M6 at Jnc.36 and follow A590 to the roundabout.  A little way up the hill on the first exit (A590) TURN RIGHT signed for Sizergh Castle. Park in the first lay-by on the Left.

Following the footpath from the lay-by we head over to the Brigsteeer Road then up fields to Helsington Church and views of the Lyth Valley and hills beyond.  Returning via wood and field paths to Sizergh Castle where there is: a Wilderness Trail for children, National Trust shop and cafe, & picnic tables. Bring picnic if you wish. Then we will walk through the castle grounds to return to the cars.

You will need strong shoes or boots as some of the paths will be muddy/wet.  Please bring any refreshments you need.

Car shares can be arranged so if you can offer a lift/need a lift please let your class assistant know, or email: If the weather looks ‘doubtful’ please call 07896 614074
